We all love soccer.

I love soccer.

Be it virtual or in real time, I love participating or cheering on the lines.

Back in university, everyone was always happy about the H.O.D’s and Dean’s cup tournament. Er..not everyone actually, some no-joy students didn’t care less.

Students from year one to final year usually kick-off trainings once rumours of a set date for the tournament is already in the air.

The girls and boys train alike and everyone is eager to put in effort. The students who don’t play, make it their life’s work to cheer on the lines. Except the no-joys of course, who don’t even show up at all.

The trainings was always a very good time for me to unwind and get distracted from school work and all.

Then one very cool thursday evening, we got this short notice from our team coach to come out for a friendly match.

I geared up in my training outfit, met up with my boyfriend and we went to the sports center.

By the way, he didn’t make the class team but I did. But he tagged along because even though we have a coach, he is more like my own coach…..you know that kind of thing😒.

So we got to the five-aside court and everyone was all ready.

The whistle went off, and the ball starts getting passed around. The match wasnt going well. It was still half time and we had conceded 3 goals or so, I was so down and tired already.

My coach noticed it and called out, he asked if I wanted to step out of the court to rest. I refused and claimed I was very much in the game.

My boyfriend is on the lines too, telling me to please step out of the court because I am clearly tired and it is just a friendly.

I insist I am still in the game and ignore him on the lines.

The ball goes out of the court and a kick in is supposed to happen, I am right in front of my opponent and I think she is going to pass the ball, well……I thought wrong.

She shoots the ball right in my face.

I can tell you this, the earth stopped revolving for a really long minute right there.

It was like a bolt of lightning struck me, the pain shot through my brain like someone dug nails into it.

I was dazed. The voices I am hearing is like it’s coming from a far distance.

I am on the floor, I think I hear my boyfriend, not sure if it s him or my coach.

It goes dark.

I can remember saying “I can’t open my eyes” and my boyfriend is saying “babe your eyes are open…can you see me?”

Never ever have I been more scared in my life.

Well, I went to the clinic the next day to get it checked or rather, I was taken to the clinic because I had no eyes. I was relieved to find out that no permanent damage was done but I still wanted my sight back as soon as possible.

My eyesight finally returned, blurry at first but by the fifth day after the incident, it was clear as day!

In my opinion, when engaging in amateur sports, you need to bear in mind that you don’t have the same training as professionals and you need to be very careful.

Sports-related eye injuries represent a significant eye health hazard worldwide. Although soccer is categorised as low risk, it should still be of concern to amateur soccer players like me.

I am now retired from amateur soccer. My short-lived soccer career was a fulfilling one.😘

Have you ever sustained injuries while playing any sports at all? Let me know in the comment section🤗.

  1. First off I would like to say wonderful blog! I had a quick question which
I’d like to ask if you don’t mind. I was interested
to know how you center yourself and clear your mind prior
to writing. I’ve had a hard time clearing my thoughts in getting my ideas out
there. I truly do enjoy writing but it just seems likke thhe
first 10 to 15 minutes tend to be lost just trying to figure out how to begin.
Any suggestions or hints? Kudos! https://bestlocksmithservicessitesblogs.wordpress.com/
