Your LIFE Your RULES (Part 2)

Two years ago, I wrote about living your life based on your rules. I also promised to share some of my personal rules in the future.

In my journey through life, I have picked up some rules, and today I have decided to share a few of them with you.

Kindly note, this is just personal. These rules have not made my life perfect in any way but it has definitely shaped me into the person I am very much proud of today.

So let’s start with rule number one:

1. Always ask questions

I actually learnt this the hard way, and since then I have made it my number 1 rule.

Always ask questions about everything, never ever assume. Do you know what they say happens when you assume? You make an ‘ass’ out of ‘u’ and ‘me’.

2. It’s okay to fail

Don’t beat yourself up about your shortcomings. It is perfectly okay to fail, you are human and you are not perfect.

Some days you get it right and some days you get it very wrong.

3. Confidence is everything

This right here is my watchword.

If you say the wrong stuff with the right attitude, people will think twice before questioning it. Confidence is really the best accoutrement to own.

4. Get perspective on things

This is a very important rule of mine because it helps to lower my worrying level by a thousand degrees.

When I feel choked about a certain thing, I try to breathe and ask myself how important is it? Would it even matter next week or next month? How would I feel about this tomorrow or next year?

5. Take responsibility for all my decisions (good or bad)

You take charge of your life when you take responsibility for your actions.

Throwing blames around when you have messed up, is a toxic thing to do.

6. Listen to yourself

Never ever joke with that unsettling feeling you have about anything at all. If something doesn’t turn out right, 8 out of 10, your guts already told you so.

Always listen to yourself and trust your sense of judgement. It will save you a lot of disappointments.

7. Reflect but never dwell in the past

You lose a lot of time and good opportunities when you dwell in the past. There is a reason your past is behind you, so leave it there.

However, it’s okay to reflect on it and be grateful for growth and how far you have come.

8. I always have a choice

There is nothing like “not having a choice” you always have a choice. Don’t be afraid to take your chances in life.

When you feel you have reached the end of the rope and you think the only choice you have is to jump. Also, remember that you can tie a knot at the end and just hang in there.

9. Be a giver

It’s more blessed to give than to receive. A water body that doesn’t have any outlet stinks.

Giving is the essence of humanity, don’t think about what you can gain from others but what others can benefit from you.

10. I either do it well or I don’t do it at all

Well, whatever is worth doing, is worth doing well. I hope to imprint this on my kids. It’s not about doing work but doing it well.

11. Love with all my heart

This may have its cons tho but I won’t have it any other way.

12. Never act when angry

You will definitely regret it. Never act on impulse, nothing good comes out of it. A cool head always makes a better judgement.

13. Rules are meant to be broken

At the end of the day, rules are meant to be broken. There are times you really need to act outside of your restrictions.

I am still learning in my journey, and of course, still picking up new rules as I go.

Let me be the first to welcome you to the month of March. 💙
