Gaslighting is a form of persistent manipulation and brainwashing that causes the victim to doubt her or himself, and to ultimately lose their own sense of perception, identity, and self-worth.
Gaslighting can occur in personal relationships between partners or friends, at the workplace between boss and co-workers and even in the family between relations.
Being with a gaslighter causes great hurt and anguish. They constantly berate, overly scrutinize and judge the gaslightee. In severe forms, it can even lead to some sort of mind control.
Everything associated with the gaslightee is never good enough, it is always subject to the gaslighter’s unreasonable judgment.
The victim may overtime start walking on eggshells, never sure of what could piss off the gaslighter. It’s all about control and power for the gaslighter.
Gaslighters never take responsibility for their errors, they always try to cook up excuses as they hit at your insecurities. Its always about the other person not them, they are so quick to dish out the blame to others.
Gaslighters are insecure and they try to rub off their insecurities on others.
They are selfish and narcissistic, trying to make them see reasons with you is like speaking to a brick wall, they are quick to discard and invalidate the emotions of others.
According to a gaslighter, no one’s feelings matter except theirs. You always have to do things their way or be reminded about all your flaws, shortcomings and undesirabilities.
The insane thing about being with a gaslighter is despite the ill-treatment, you somehow find yourself looking for approval and acceptance from them. So they dish out negative energies combined with positive bribery.
The gaslightee wishing to be in the good book may then become more compliant, this way, the gaslighter retains power over the gaslightee.
I know so well about gaslighting because I almost lost my mind once.
And in my experience, the only way to regain control and salvage what’s left of your self esteem is to disengage, I repeat, disengage!
